OSHCIM Professional Competency Training Course
23-25 May 2023Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru, Johor
Introduction
New Amended OSHA, highlighted one of the obligations is to conduct a risk analysis. OSHCIM guidelines outline the minimum responsibilities of all duty holders and stakeholders participating in the construction project from its inception to its conclusion. Among the duty holders listed are the client, designer, and contractor. It is their responsibility to adhere to this practical advice on the management of safety, health, and welfare throughout the life cycle of a building.
To equip the industry with relevant competencies to effectively implement OSHCIM Guidelines, BIMCDIS introduced the competency programme to ensure the designers are competent to implement OSHCIM in the construction industry. This training has been developed through a government initiative by the
Department of Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia (DOSH).
Objectives
Upon completion of the 3-day course, learners are expected to have the skills and
knowledge to function as competent designers with the purpose to:
Assist the client to facilitate an OSHCIM design review assessment with stakeholders to address and identify means to eliminate or mitigate the risks inherent in the design of a construction project so as to reduce the safety and health risks during the construction, maintenance/repair phase, and demolition of the building and structure.
Coordinate the flow of construction
project safety and health risk information among the stakeholders from the design stage to the construction stage until the handover to the client for occupation and maintenance.

Course Synopsis
This course is designed to ensure that Occupational Safety and Health in Construction Industry (Management) – (OSHCIM) concepts can be practiced at an early stage of a project. Design Phase is the earliest opportunity to incorporate Safety into a construction project. Just as productivity can be enhanced with early planning, so is the greatest impact for safety. Designing for safety starts at the conceptual and planning phases of a project with collective and conscious decisions by stakeholders about the design, methods of construction and later demolition, and also the materials used which enhance the safety of the building or structure.
